Tirana, June 14, 2011 NOA - On the international day of voluntary blood donation more than 60 Vodafone Albania employees donated blood to help save lives of children suffering from thalassemia. This year marks the 6th year that Vodafone Albania employees responded to the Albania Red Cross appeal for blood donation.
The donation event was held today at the premises of the Vodafone Albania Headquarters. The volunteers were greeted and thanked by high representatives of Albanian Red Cross, Vodafone Albania and Vodafone Albania Foundation. Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of donating blood and made a strange appeal to the Albanian society to pay due attention to such a human gesture that saves lives.
Secretary General of the Albanian Red Cross Mr. Zamir Muça said that Vodafone people are continuing to show respect and give true human help to the people whose lives are depended form donated blood, especially children suffering from thalasemia. Mr. Muça said that Vodafone’s support should serve as an example of organizations that care about communities around them.
Mrs. Alma Varfi, Human Resources Director at Vodafone Albania said that blood donation goes beyond saving peoples’ lives as it bonds the society and makes every member of society feel strong, important and part of a human-centred environment where people care about each other. She added that Vodafone Albania is glad to help spread such message.
Vodafone Albania considers Corporate Responsibility a key element on any business decision it makes. Every year significant funds are allocated to social support projects delivered through Vodafone Albania Foundation and Corporate Responsibility department.
